Special to the "Telegraph"
It is authoritatively stated, says a "United Press" report from Belgrade, that British troops have landed on the Greek island of Cephalonia, which is situated off the west coast of Greece, dominating the entrance to the Gulf. of Corinth.
According to an earlier London report, says “United Press”, His Majesty King George VI and Mr. Churchill both sent mes- anges to King George of Greece and General Metaxas the Greek Premier, promising "all the assistance in our power."
General Metaxas, says an Athens report, has appealed to Italy to treat Athens as an open city. The evacuation of 2,600 British subjects is being held up pending Italy's reply.
