The Rumanlan Government bas gained control over all British owned and British chartered vessels In Rumanian territorial waters by a new decree sued by the Government under Nazi 'inspiration.

The decree also affects a further 65 ships under the British dag, which have

Czech Anniversary
Independence Day Recalled
To-day, October 28, is the National Independence day of the Czechoslovak Republic, and is celebrated by all Czechoslovaks regardless of whether they are living in free countries or in territories under German "'protec- !tion".
The following brief description of events in 1939 is condensed from the U10 original document known as Czechoslovak. Blue Book, published in Paris last April.
On October 28, 1839, the anniver sary of National independence, there were manifestations in all towns in the Protectorate, especially in Prague. University students played a very active part In the processions formed in spite of Von Neurath's prohibition People were killed and wounded, and nearly 4,000 persons were arrested by the German Police, and

Fifteen days after these events, the family of Jean Opletal, n medical student, was merely informed that the young man had died. As a matter of fact he succumbed to the wounds and blows received at the bonds of the Gestapo.
