SCATHING AMERICAN COMMENT ON The Board for Two Players

FERRIER'S BAN Disqualified Because He Was Sports-writer

Entries For H.K. Amateur

(By "Birdie")

WHATEVER may have been the upheavals in Australia following the United States Golf Asso- ciation's ban on Jim Ferriar for the U. S. Amateur, loud were the rumblings in the American Press, and with their unbounded freedom of speech made no bones about their displeasure.

One paper says that he was debarred on the eve of the competition because of the publication in Australia of his Book "Jim Ferrier's Golf Shots" and another imputes the ban to the fact that he is a sports-writer for an Australian newspaper. But though they might be divided in their opinions why he was disqualified, they are unanimous în expressions of surprise and indignation at the ruling.

"Los Angeles Times" writer Dick Hyland who is particularly ( graphic in spooch and, says "he despises autocratic amateur sports brass hats who lay down bald unexplained edicts."
