IT HAS BEEN SAID that golf is a game, the rules of which would fill pages. Actually they do in the Golfer's Handbook-261⁄2 of them. the complexity of the game is its great fascina- tion. It is more full of incident than any other, and because of this the 261⁄2 pages of rules have to be supplemented with local rules governing local conditions.
However, because of their volume, it is probable thatį many golfers are unfamiliar with all the rules that govern their game, and though this is no great handicap except in isolated incidents in competitions, there are fundamentals that should be known.
