CHANNEL PORTS INFERNO

Terrific R.A.F. Raids

Special to the "Telegraph"

LONDON, Sept. 9 (UP).—Royal Air Force units heavily bombed shipping in French and Belgian ports on the Channel coast in raids which lasted all night yester- day, despite intense A.A. fire, rain, sleet, thunder and lightning, said an Air Ministry statement, amplifying reports on British raids to-day.

The statement said the raids on Ostend lasted 71⁄2 hours from

9 p.m., starting several fires

"One fire which started in Ostend docks was estimated to cover over 10,000 square yards. After another aircraft had bombed some vessels tied up to the quay there was an explosion so violent that aircraft flying at 11.000 feet were flung about."

That the Germans are intent
