Alves And Ribeiro Enter Third Round
Four mare matches in the Second Round of the Open Pairs Lawn Bowls Champion were decided yesterday, the three matches at Happy Valley- providing very close finishes.
H. A. Alves and F. V. V. Ribeiro, holders, won through to the Thin Round at the expense of J. S. Riddell and J..C..Aliken whom they beat 20-21 after a ding-dong struggle." The Portuguese pair were very solid throughout and unruffled when being led 18-16 on the 17th end. The next head, a short one, proved disastrous for the Police pair, who were seven shots down, Alves laying his Bret three woods close to the jack while Ribeiro completed the great work. They never looked back from this stage.
Landolt and Basa, Craigengower veterans, were fully extended all the way by Jackle Noronha and C. G. Silva, but won 10-17, Norunhin and Silva drew level at the 10th end with the scores al 16-10, but a three on) the 20ths head gave the Cralgengower they pair a jumping off place and won after conceding a single shot on the last head. Silva was at the top) of his form and drew beautifully onto the jack, although in the closing stages he narrowly missed on several occasions when a drive was called for.i

FOURTEEN "STARTERS"
Take the excellent example of; 13-year-old Ching Man-huen, who swam the 440 yards in last [Saturday's gala at the European Y.M.CA. pool. Had May tried, he could have assuredly heater young Ching by a much greater margin, but that does not minimise the splendid effort of Ching, who swam this race for the first time. He wishes to be a sprinter, and seldom has he swum over 200 yards, the dis- tance prescribed by Law for the sprinters.
Chan Kwok-kwan, another young- ster, also has not swum this distance before. Deyond his dally 200 yards to give him siamina for the sprints, he has never awum in practice, least of all in a race, longer distances, He is also to be commended on n splanuld performance.

Water Polo Victory For Chung Sing
(By "Ripr'").
Chung Sing Bathing Club's waterpolo team had their pound of flesh, and more, when they trounced Eastern by five goals to one, after being on lovel terms at the end of the first half, in a return match at Kennedy Town yesterday evening.
Eastern was the faster lcom, but were overshadowed in positioning, for which Chung Sing excelled,
Eastern attacked within the first few minutes, but Che Chok-wan was unsuccessful. The ball was
quickly transferred to the Eastern area by Ng Nin, who outswam Shek Kam-pul to beat Woo Cho-kin' with a clever shot bouncing the ball twice before scoring
Within a few seconds of their scoring Shui Hung-yul received a nice pass from Tommy Kew to equalise with a lovely backhand ahot taken from several yards out. Both goals went through several clase shaves without, however, affecting the score.
