Hollanders May Join Volunteers

The Netherlands Con- sulate General stated this morning that it was now permissible for Dutch sub- jects to join the Hongkong Volunteers, and that five men had actually joined up since July 1.

The Consulate state that there was some discussion on this matter some time ago, when a wire was sent to their Home Govern- ment in London for in- structions. Previously, it was necessary to write to the Queen for permission, but this procedure was not now necessary, as a Royal decree was expected in the near future, whereby Netherlanders could join any of the Allied Forces.
