A dramatic touch to the evacuation was provided yesterday evening when the American President liner Pre- aldent Coolidge, which was instructed by direct radio messages from the State Department in Washington to return to Hongkong for orders. The President Coolidge had left Hongkong early yesterday morning for Manda. The American liner is now being held until midnight to-day for evacua- tion purposes but it emphasised that no instructions have been given by the American Consulate to Ameri- eans to evacuate. American subjects residing in the Colony-there nbaut 1,000--have been unofcially advised that the presen
