be sent as soon as possible to their countrices, it is doubly necessary where the Hospital accommodation is lamentably deficient and unsuitable for their detention. Should any international agreement be entered into, it could only operate to the advantage of this colony. Having regard to the population here it would be of the rarest possible occurrence that the expense connected with the repatriation of its destitute inhabitants would have to be incurred, but should any case arise, it would, I believe, be readily met by the local Government.
On the above grounds, I am of opinion that as far as this colony is concerned, it would be advisable that Lord Derby's suggestion should if practicable be carried out.
