UPSET SPORTS

BOWLS TOURNAMENT AND TENNIS LEAGUE SHOULD

BE AFFECTED

(By “Tinkor”)

THE MORE RIGID PROGRAMME of training for the Hongkong Volunteers, of which I, as one of the Corps, fully approve, will probably have its effect on the local sports competitions now in be- ing. The rain over the past few weeks has done nothing to improve the progress of either the fawn bowls tournament or the tennis league, and because of this further postponements aro de- finitely to be avoided.

Scottish Football

Suspended

LONDON, Junę 26. (Reuter).-The Scottish Football League have an- nounced that all competi tions have been suspended until the annual meeting in 1941. But it is official- ly stated that there is nothing to prevent a body of Clubs getting together and forming a competition of their own.

Hammond's Effort For The Airmen

(At Lewes) Despite Walter Hammond's great effort of 63, in which his famous cover drives yielded eight 4's; the Royal Air Force lost to Bussex, whose victory was mainly due to the bowling of W. J. Pershke, an old Oxford Blue, who took 6 for 25.

Sussex had to struggle hurd, and only a sixth wicket stand between J. Leclerq and S. Cama (left-handers) enabled them to prevail.
