AQUATIC PROSPECTS
AT NORTH POINT Indications For The Season: Improvement Over Middle Distances
(By "Ripple").
THE TWO GALAS held at North Point over the woek-end, served as eye-openers to what one None will deny can expect for the coming season. that the times, such as they were, augured well, especially when one remembers that this Colony will be visited, sometime in October, by a contin- gent of swimmers from the Philippines.
I was rather disappointed in not seeing the Chinese "y" swim in the C.B.C. medley relay against the Lai Taun Union. The South China race was too short to serve as "any basis of judgment, and I think that another race over the longer distance is required before one can establish the better team.
I was very much impressed by
(Lal Trun) Trang Chon-wat
when he swam Umat 30 metres-anchor against Chan Wing-kai. and though this is only the beginning of the ren- son, I understood that that 50 metres WAR covered
'something' in 27 seconds, which ought to make it 25 'something for the 50 yards,
Coaches were very reticent when approached about their stars. This is the beginning of the season they say and there la not much to tell about the swimmers.
MR. Wong Sau-san of the Chinese Bathing Club, however, has this much to nay about his 'proteges' Enrique, he is much better this sca- ΤΟΠ, At the present moment, he is fighting a bout of 'fu, but once he is fully recovered, he will be training bard, and what hoper there are of his breeking his own 100 yards breast- stroke record, are rasy, very rosy.
Robert Chan had just recovered from a fierce bout of fever. Marks of his recent illness were stil up- parent, but he sportingly accepted 10 anchor for C.B.C. In the medley, but after a second club event found the going too strenous and had to pack
up.
it
Ils style is not so cramped as was last year. There is a "Dowiness" i in hin stroke and a pronounced glide, factors which I am sure will com- bine well with his excellent stamina to enable him to offer a much more serious challenge to the middle dis- tances this season..
A NEW-COMED to back-stroke is Poon Wing-kal. A
five- former style swimmer, he was discovered by S. H. Wong, who was searching for a His daily successor to Lau Yul-ting. routine of 20 to 25 lengths leaves him fresh enough for a couple of fast sprints to give him that last quarter'. To my mind, I think he will de velop into a finer back-stroker than Lau over who.
A WORD for the fale sex. Lec Po-juen, duo-champion of the C.B.C. and South China galas, 100 metres breast-stroke-her times were alstent, 96 3/8 and 90 2/5. Her coach holds great promise for her this coming season. He is most confident she will improve,

Chinese "Y" Succumb Easily To Sing Tao
(By "GUARD")
CHINESE "Y" were expected to go down to Sing Tao, but it was the manner in which they succumbed, 52-38. that was the surprise. But the best of the week Was Combined Bank's grand struggle against Chung Sing. They tailed in the first half 24-26, and actually held the lead at 34-32, but their finish was not half as spectacular as their beginning, and they went down 64-53.

CHUNG SING is playing much more disjointed than at the beginning of the season. They seemed to have lost a great deal of the team work that seemed to promise their being the ultimate pennant winners-
Chan Yul-cheng was excellent In- dividually; dribbled his way through a weak Bankers' defence to sink baskets, including a few from mid- field, to bring his tally to 11 goals.
This feat was equalled by Kit-sun of the Bankers, his sup were astonishingly accurate, and it was mainly due to him that the Banks had any say in the matter.

NGAN LUEN-PAK handed a 60-41 defeat to Hung Yuen, who appear to be going from bad to
worse.
Centre Wong Hon-wing for the Pakians was in fine shooting form, and sank no less that 15 baskets, Chan Yuen-kel (12) and guard Lai Shul-ting figured prominently for the winners, while Lüm Wan-wong (14) and Wong Yue-but (10) were scen for the loser.
YAU YAU caused a minor upset when they beat Cheng Pal 36-24 in the last game of the evening. Yue Chui-pul and Poen 'Hin-ming' struck up a good understanding to give Yau Yau their viclory, while Ng Chi-ngal was the best of the Cheng Poks.
