THE WIMBLEDON "CHAMPIONSHIPS" mentioned last week, have been explained. A report in a Home newspaper recently arrived in the Colony states that an International tennis tournament has been staged for Wimbledon this NEW YORK, June 12 (UP)-MIke month. Miss Cleather, Secretary of the All-Jacobs, the world famous boxing England Club stated that it will be a two-day with Bob Pastor in meeting, and many of the leading men and wo heavyweight bout on August 13 at men have signified their intention to take part.

Mrs. Menzies (Kay Stammers) started the ball roll- ing in the same direction, namely in aid of the British Red Cross Fund, when a little while ago she partnered Peggy Scriven against Jean Nichol and B. Yorke.

It may not be that as an International event it will be highly successful, for though no mention is made of what foreign talent there is in Eng- land at the moment it isn't like- ly to amount to much.

But, at least, among the British pinyers themselves a sufficient number of the ranking players are avail- able to make up for the de- ficiency.

War workers in and around Lon- don and those who can obtain leave to take part include R. A. Shayes (nory, it is understood, 113 the RAE-1, D. W. Butler, M. D. Dein- ford, Flying Omeer E. Maltray, RJ. Ritchie, E. R. Avory, Flying- Offer L. Sham, Pilot-Omeer D. Haskell (Britain's leading profes- sional), Miss Jonn Ingram and the above mentioned four women.

MEMBERS playing

during

the season for clubs af- fillated to the Club Cricket Con- ference are asked to contribute a penny for every match in which they take part.

This was decided at the annual general meeting of the C.C.C. in response to an appeal made by Mr. S. Christopherson, President of the M.C.C. It is estimated that if Clubs support the appeal and collect the small sums after each game the Red Cross Fund will eventually benefit to the extent of £750
