ATHLETICS IN FAR EAST
Hongkong Suffers In Comparison With P.I., Shanghai And Japan
(By "Tinker")
STATISTICS, usually, are not the best 'means of making sports comparisons, in fact, several people go as far as to say that they do not agree with the compiling of sports statistics at all, but in athletics, at least, times and distances are ofton the only facts upon which one can assess relative values.
The more important track meets of Shanghai have just been held, and, co-incidentally, the East Asia Athletic Meet at Tokyo has just concluded. To this latter meet went the stars from the Philippines, and the times and distances were' most illuminating.

As odious as ever, this com- parison is especially so-to the Colony. But in fairness it must be pointed out that the East Asin Meet attracted the best athletes there are (China cepted) in the Far East. the Filipinos and the Japanese are of world-Olympic standard and it is hardly expected that little Hongkong could produce runners and jumpers to reach up to them.
