CAPITULATION LEAVES NORTH ARMIES WITHOUT PROTECTION ON LEFT
SPECIAL TO THE "TELEGRAPH"
PARIS, MAY 28 (UP).—THE ALLIED ARMY OF THE NORTH IS RETREATING UNDER AN AERIAL CURTAIN OF BOMBS, FOLLOWING KING LEOPOLD'S SURRENDER TO THE NAZIS.
It is reported that 400,000 Allied troops were entrapped in the Nazi ring of steel as a result of the King's order.
PLANES TO RESCUE
A MILITARY SOURCE HERE TO-NIGHT SAID THAT ALLIED AVIATION IS FURIOUSLY BOMBING THE REAR OF THE RETREATING FORCES IN AN EFFORT TO PROTECT THEIR WITHDRAWAL.
Meanwhile he added, the French are still holding Dunkirk, The Belgian forces which capitulated numbered half a million. Allied sources state that part of these may rebel against the King's order and fight on, although much of the Belgian front has been quiet since 4 o'clock this morning.
NEW ARMY TO BE RAISED Only a fraction of Belgium's 300 planes remain, but many Belglan forces are now in training in France, from which a new Belgian army will be raised.
The Allies plan to mass along the 80-mile Somme front on the South- wall of the German corridor to the Channel, and will attempt a counter- offensive, hoping that the northern be withdrawn before the con be Germans close in.

The French are reported to have repulsed two attacks between the Meuse and Argonne last night, in- flicting heavy losses on the enemy.
