THE EUROPEAN Y.M.C.A. have pointed the way for a 1940 swimming programme with the two very enjoyable galas held last’wook." In the first of those, in which they entertained the Aus. tralian Naval Reservists, they indicated the road by which the Colony will get the best from its swimmers, that is, through inter-club competi- tion and plenty of it.
At the end of the season, there are the championships and a prospective visit from the Philippines to look for- ward to, and the water-polo league and respective Club galas-to-carry through-till-then-There-is-no-dearth-of- swimmers here at the moment, and though there is none of exceptional ability, they are not far short of champion- ship class, and final touches should be given through more extensive Club competition.
The position of the bathing Clubs at North point appears to be jeopardised. No one is sure what is going to happen to them. On one hand are reports that the Clubs have been told to vacate their sites, and from other sources comes information į that they have been told (un-) officially) that they need not worry too much for anothor two or three years.
