1940 SWIMMING PROSPECTS

Philippines' Visit Probable In August Harbour Restrictions

Water-polo League

And

(By "Tinker")

THE EUROPEAN Y.M.C.A, have pointed the way for a 1940 swimming programime with the two very enjoyablo galas hold last week. In the first of thoso, in which they entertained the Aus- tralian Naval Reservists, they indicated the road by which the Colony will got the best from its swimmers, that is, through intor-club compoti- tion and plenty of it.

At the end of the seas here are the championships- and a prospective visit fa- Philippines to look for- ward to, and the water-pe-o ieague and respective Club galas to carry through till then. There is no dearth of swimmers here at the moment, and though there is none of exceptional ability, they are not far short of champion- ship class, and final touches should be given through more extensive Club competition.

The position of the bathing Clubs at North point appears to be jeopardised. No one is sure what is going to happen to them. On one hand are reports that! the Clubs have been told to vacate their sites, and from other sources comes information that they have been' told (un-) officially) that they need. not. worry too much for another two or three years.

Safeguarding the Colony from the horrors of cholera-removing people from the possible tontamination of the polluted waters of the harbour- the main reason for the evacuation notice. And it is for this reason tou, that military teams will be unable to

participate in a water-polo league in baths other than their own new one n the Victoria Barracks.

Some Interesting Ties Champions Draw Byes:

(By "Wick").

AT A MEETING of the Competition Sub-Committee yesterday, it was decided to commence the Colony Lawn Bowls championships with the Pairs on Monday, June 3, and the Rinks on Sunday, June 9.

The draw for the first round of these two competitions was also made at the meeting. And while it is inevitable, in a competition which has attracted so many entries, that- there will be many uninteresting games in the early rounds, the result of the draw nevertheless has ensured some good matches.
