at Pak hoi, exhibited such strong symptoms of Lunacy that it was necessary to place him in charge of the Colonial Surgeon.

Dichpes thought it advisable, after consulting Dr. Wharry, the Superintendent of the Civil Hospital, to have Mr. Harvey removed to that institution, but on the second day of his detention the attack having increased in violence he was taken to the temporary Lunatic Asylum recently established at West Point.

Mr. Harvey remained under the control of the Medical authorities from the 31st July to the 12th August, and on the latter date, the violent symptoms having subsided, he was allowed out under medical supervision, with one attendance of the Hospital staff upon him, which is the case at present.

I enclose a copy of the Certificate which Dr. Ayres and Wharry drew up at the request of Sir Brooke Robertson, who happens to be in Hongkong.

Mr. Harvey still remains in a state of health which necessitates entire release from work, and as Sir Brooke Robertson has been
