WE ARE BOUND to have a nice field of good milers in the major event, the Whitsun Handicap, for Australian ponies of this season, and the first prize is worth $750 to the winner.

VERY HEAVY NOMINATIONS have been received for the two days of the Whitsun Mecting to be held on May 11 and 13, the largest| being 49 entries for the Groon Island Handicap confined to "C" class China ponies. It was originally framed by the racing Stowards to divide the entries into two sections at the discretion of the handicapper, but in view of the number it has been decided to have three divisions.
However, it is one of the finest programmes ever pre- sented to the public, for there are in all 20 handicap events of various distances from the 11⁄2 mile post (about half maile 170 yards) to one and a half miles, the majority being long outings.
