Lau Chung Nam deeply insulted me on Tuesday, 21st instant, at Jai Woon's shop, Grey Street, last night. The defendant came to my house and stopped all right. This morning, after breakfast, I got up, and missed 3 jackets and a pair of trousers which were hanging on the wall - the defendant had lifted them.

1876. 27 November 1876.

Reference to your letter 457. Inspector Grey states that he has no further evidence to produce.

Answer: Defendant to find security - 1 Magistrate $25 within 2 months in default to be committed.

I went to look for him. About 4 o'clock in the afternoon, I saw him at the Recreation Ground - I asked him if he had taken it. I called a constable, and gave the defendant into custody. I do not know what occupation the defendant has. I am the master of a cookhouse, and the defendant came for a little refreshment.

Defendant states: I owe some people money. I did sleep in the house last night.

Remanded till 27th instant.
