I do not think there has been any correspondence of recent years as to the fortifications of the place, but should they require remodelling I think it would be fair & might be possible to get something out of the Colonial Finances.

Land has recently been a family bother, but we have plenty of work ahead with Praya Wall, Civil Hospital, Cattl School, Water supply happily that. I should be very sorry to see the sum of $40,000 thrown away at present.

I distrust M. Hennebley's financial proposal. I do not think the record you may have seen of this office would justify a eulogy of him "nihil tetigit, non ornavit".

I hope this witless affair may quiet down.

M. Hurbat U.E.D.q. of saying anything in defence he avowed according to things nowed by a very proper arrangement for lack of crony join a public pay for nito contribution towards the Military and Imperial Military Expenditure of the Country.

Hong Kong costs £112,000; there is ample room for further payments by the Colony. But besides the works enumerated by Mr. Round the form has lately proposed the Construction of Breakwaters in the Harbour.

I think while framing Hongkong, the Colony will be in a state of fortification as the first Colonial governor and the rest.

I think it very much better...
