Bright Shield Hopes: Army Surprise Indians At Sookunpoo
THE CIVIL SERVICE team have got a definite hoodoo on them at present, and they really ought On Saturday last they to do something about it. were without Fortescue, who was ill, and Mc- Lellan, and, of course, this had to happen when they wore playing the K.C.C., who are about the strongest side in the Colony.
As usual there were far too! many passengers in the side. Richardson only just got into Colledge double figures, but
(20), Perry (27) and Hawkins (22) all did well. But the rest flopped, and owing to a mis- understanding, Cruttwell had failed to turn out. The result was the side was mit for 118
runs.
Heing one short, the CS. had a coolie out, and, of course, it was to him that F. J. Lay put up a dolly watch at mid-on when only about ten runs had been scored. Down it went, and the pair took the score to 60 before Hawkins caught Anderson at mid-off-in self defence, us some one said.
Then things altered. Perry strain-| ed his buck, und Fenton went on again while Walley proceeded to bowl very well. Except for D, Hung, the K.C.C. people got on the run, and Fenton in his second spell took 4 for 18.

Hongkong's 1940 Derby produerd one of the most thrilling finishes yet seen at Happy Valley. This is a picture of the field on their first time of passing the Stand. Spicylight leads, and the uliinate winner Salta- ight is third, with Burford Tying fourth. Cralgavad is further behind.
If a greater gap existed between second and third ponies, this picture might well have been one of the finish, substituting Satinlight and Burford for the leading pontes-Ming Yuen.
