not be far from the place, where those unfortunate women have been picked up at least.

In Australia itself not far from Sydney there is a place where natives are sent from the different islands to be instructed under the direction of the same Missionary; and some years ago we find there Francois Soustons a native of Goodenough Island near New Guinea, who has been received by them. I have no doubt those kind Missionaries would take interest in the case of those unfortunate women.

As for the temporary residence of these women in Hongkong, You can assure His Excellency that the R. Catholic Convents are at his disposal and thrown open to receive any female persons His Excellency would recommend.

May I add that there is in Hongkong, I think he lives at once, a public house a sailor who is a native of Futuna and who, besides his own language, speaks French and English. He might be able to understand those poor souls, and give us better information about their real condition.

Thank you

(Signed) John Ramonde

Honourable

The Colonial Secretary.
