C.S.O.No. 1227-
Hong Kong 29th May, 1877. Received 29th May, 1877.
M. Bouloube In charge of the French Consulate
to
Colonial Secretary Hon: J. Gardiner Austin, Esq.
Four Coloured Women picked up at sea by the French vessel "Dauphin" which arrived on the 28th May, 1877. Reports the circumstance of-
and requests to be informed what measures the Colonial Government intend taking relative to.
The Harbour Master reports:-
Four coloured women were picked up about 240 miles North East of the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean. They are natives of some island in that neighbourhood, but are quite unable to make themselves understood-
They are quite destitute and in want of clothing.
I see no prospect of these people being got on the other side of Hong Kong even if we knew of what island they are natives. In any other way than by sending them to Cooktown or Brisbane where they probably would find some one who could ascertain where they are from.
Enclosure No 1 in Governor J. Pope Hennessy's Despatch no 49 of 3rd July 1877.
