At about 3 Am.

As I was on duty on 23rd January, I saw the defendant following a drunken seaman. As I knew him to have been convicted of picking pockets, I took him into custody. I produce his former convictions. Case No 6726 of 1874, picking the pocket of an European female, when sentenced to 3 months imprisonment with hard labour and to be flogged. He was convicted of picking the pocket of an European female (Deannan). Case No 4489 of 1875 and sentenced to 4 months imprisonment with hard labour and flogged.

Defendant states: I only came back to the Colony to seek some money from my brother in order to get away.

Sentence: 3 Months Imprisonment with hard labour for R. J. V. Signed File No. 238
