AND THEY SAY WE LIE

THE "Telegraph” pub-

tishes to-day a pic- ture which will arouse horror throughout the civilised world.

It is a faked picture ap pearing in Hitler's own party newspaper, Volkischer Beobachter of September 13. You see a portrait of the British Prime Minister cleverly superimposed on the picture of one of the hundreds of women who suffered agonising deaths through Hitler's invasion of Polaud

"POLISH BEASTS" This is a translation of the callous and lying caption:---

"This German woman hns been tortured and murdered in Bromberg by Polish beasts fol- lowing the blank_cheque given by England-to-Poland.-

"HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT, MR. CHAMBER- LAIN?"

Mr. Chamberlain has already been wildly accused by other Nazi newspapers of organising terrorist bands in Poland to murder German people.

[The features of the woman in the picture, it may be point- ed out, are not German, but Slavonic-she is almost certain- ly a Pole.]

But the Volkischer Beobach- ter is the official organ of the Nazi party. It is the mouthi- piece of Hitler himself,

'HATRED AND FURY' The man who now leads the great German nation would have the German people believe Mr. Chamberlain is responsible for murders that Hitler himself has inspired.

On the same page appears another attack on the Premier, whose name is this time coupled

Franz was Hitler's rival

By LINDON LAING

HITLER has a rival. Franz Wagner, of Kaufbeuren,

near Munich. He can put it across the Germans, too,

Franz began by Inventing a "musele developer and rejuvenator."

No one was interested until he persuaded an elderly lady that there was a fortune in strengthening Ger- (many's muscles. To Briance him she not only handed over her life savings, but pawned her jewels,

Encouraged by this success, Franz

it of chemicals. He claimed that it would crease trousers, cure slck 'horses, and give relief to tired feet,

Franz forged ahead. He invented a prayer the recital of which woul jbring good business. He sold that to

other Germans.

I sald Hitler has a rival. I should lave sald Hitler had a rival. Hitler is still getting away with it. They have found Franz out at last. The Munchener. Neueste Nachrichten now lells his story and adds that he is serving three years', hard inbour.

ARANZ has a rival, too. The editor of the Westdeutscher Beobachter. He complains in a front page article that one Beiginn newspaper mentioned the possibility that Ger- many will invade Belgium.

"The suggestion is bad." says the editor. "Germany has never attacked any State." 1014? Well, why should the editor worry when Franz and Hitler gel away with so much!

ET'S get down to facts for a change. The Neueste Zeitung of Frankfurt leads the way in announc ing that in future cach German Is Imited to one egg per week.

But why worry over that, it asks. If you are poor, then remember the rich can get no more than you.' And if you are rich remember that your needs are no greater than those of the Door,

Logic, eh!

THE Koelnische Zeltung is not for behind with the announcement that bones are how included in the [German meat rations.

The meat control committee have decided that the weight of bones must be included in the ration allowed to each German. Consolation is offered by the announcement that the bones must not exceed 20 per cent of the pork ration, 25 per cent. of the beef [ration, or 30 per cent. of the veal

ration.

But if any German sels his heart on Ja plece of boneless meat, then the butcher must estimate how much bene should be included in the cut and deduct it from the ration,
