Carpet Renovations

WITH the approach of longer even-

inga Indoors, attention wilt naturally be focussed upon the car- pels which are such nù important item in the appearance of a room.

It is a good plan to turn a carpst ni least twice a year, to ensure even wear over the whole surface. At the same time it will benefit if treated with a shompoo made by putting two tablespoonfuls of soap-lakes and n tablespoonful of liquid ammonin into a small bowl of boiling water. Dip a clean scrubbing brush Inlo Uhla solution and go lightly over the whole carpet, finishing of with a cloth wrong out of clean, warm water, but take care not to make the carpei too wet.

Nothing spoils the appearance of a carpet so much as the presence of stains which are more easily removed if dealt with promptly. If solled with blacklead put a jitile fuller's carih into a saucer, pour on a few drops of cold water and ammonia, Mix Into a soft paste, rub well into the carpet and allow it to dry in. With frul, stains, how- ever, it is better to rub the spot with spirits of wine containing a few drops of ammonia. Ink split on a carpet must be soaked up immediately with blotting paper. Then treat the afferted part berally with milk, and

rub with a clean cloth.

Greuse marks should al:o be covered with blotting paper, und pressed with n hot iron. Repent with fresh sheets until the paper coincs sway clean, when the part can be finally rubbed with a cloth dipped in turpentine.
