Britain Prepares For A Three-Years War
London, Sept. 9.
It is announced that the War Cabinet meeting held this morning decided to base its policy on the assumption that the war will last three years or more.
A statement issued through the Ministry of Information adds: "Instructions are being issued to all Government depart ments to ensure that plans for the future shall be prepared im. mediately on this assumption. In the meantime, all measures for which preparation has already been made will be brought fully into active operation,
"In furtherance of the defence programmes already in operation, the Ministry of Supply will take steps forthwith to ensure that the productive capacity of munitions of all kinds is increased on a scale required to meet every possible issue.
"Corresponding arrangements are being made by the Admiralty and the Air Ministry.
"In the great national interest, the civil needs of the country will be borne in mind as well as the importance of maintaining the export trade.
"The War Cabinet is confident that this significant decision will meet with the wholehearted support of the British people and will be welcomed by our allies and friends."
Renter's diplomatic correspondent says that the decision is looked upon as emphasising not that Government will base their policy on the assumption that the war will last three years or more, but that Britain is determined to see the matter through and to fight Nazism to the bitter end.-Reuter,
