NEW SCHEME FOR FINSBURY SHELTER

A double-deck bombproof shelter and car park under Finsbury-square is proposed by Finsbury Borough Council. The plans, with the architect's drawing (right), which shows how the square will look if the proposals are adopted, were displayed in the Council Chamber, recently. A roof of reinforced concrate 7ft. Sin, thick under a layer of earth would cover the shelter, which will have room for 12,000 people or 764 cars. The cost of the scheme is esti- mated at £263,000, including a grant of £100,000 from the Government.
