The Watch Cominittee recommend- ed that the proposed increase should be reviewed in 12 months and that "In any event this Committee, upon a return to normal peace-time condi- tions, will take ali possible steps to restore the police force to appropriate peace-time strength."

The salaries of the additional seven men will amount to £1,820 per jannura, towards which n Government grant of 50 per cent. will be received.

The Finance Committee report that| "they have no observation to make on a temporary increase, having regard to the emergency, but that represen- tation be made to the Home Office that this should not be regarded as a permanent strength of the force."
