that I paid all fees into the Treasury and continued to draw the half salary of Registrar and I pay the fees into the Treasury up to 22nd of last month. By a Minute order from the Acting Colonial Secretary of 29th March I was authorised to draw half the uncorrected salary of Registrar, $40 a month, from 1st January of this year.
Up to the date of my appointment as Acting Registrar to the end of 1876 I paid into the Treasury $136.67 being the Fees I had received during that period.
When I accepted the appointment of Acting Registrar on the understanding that I paid the Fees into the Treasury, I did so in the contemplation to make an application in the salary of the office and believing that I should eventually, have the benefit of any increase under you.
I now respectfully request that you will bring these facts to the notice of His Excellency the Governor. and I trust His Excellency will see fit to allow us to draw the additional half salary of Registrar, $40 a month, from the date of the appointment, 18th January, to 31st December last; or that the Fees I paid in during that period may be returned to me.
