Attack On Hillside Woman Brings Rape Charge
On the verge of tears at times, a statement regarding the attack on her on a hillside above Deepwater Bay on July 12 was told by Lau Chung, 35, widow before Mr. T. J. Houston nt Central Magistracy yesterday. Defendant is Bahadur Khan, 27, Police special guard, who is on a charge of rape.
Detective Sub-Inspector J. O'Dono- van, assisted by Sub-Inspector A. F. Estall prosecuted, and Mr. J. M. d'Almindu Remedios was for the defence.
Inspector O'Donovan said Khan was stationed-at-Wongmeichong-Gap:- Complainant was a hawker at the Deepwater Bay golf course, assisted by another woman, Mok Ying.
The two women lived in a hut at Aberdeen, and journeyed to the Course every morning at 11 am. The scene.

was the pathway ut the north end of the Course. It came out near the Wong- neichong Gap Police Station.
On July 12, Lau and Mok arrived

at their pitch at 11 am Lau went wash her face at a nearby stream, leaving Mok to look after the stall. After washing her face, Lau went

to collect some tree branches for firowood. While collec- ting the wood, an Indian in khaki uniform appeared, recused her of stealing
Government wood, threatened to take her to the station. Lau then alleged the Indian caught her by the wrist, took her furher up the hillside, forced
her to the ground and raped her. Lau shouted "Save Life" but as it was a lonely place no one
one went to her assistance. Khan was Interviewed by Ser- geant Macvey at the Wongnelchong Gap station, and hearing of complaint, asked to be medically examined. He was taken to the Queen Mary Hospital. He WAR Identified by Lau at on Identification parade at the hospital on July 13,
Evidence corroborating the open- ing was given by Lau. She was not cross-examined by Mr. Remedios, who said he would like to visit the scene before doing so. Mr. Remedios remarked that the defence would consent.

Repairs Taking A Month
London, Aug. 11. Imperial Airways announced that repairs to the flying boat Australia, which was damaged while taking off- al Basra two days ago, will take one month.
