Effort To Shorten Parliamentary Recess Unsuccessful

GRAVE WARNING BY CHURCHILL

LONDON,

(U.P.). The Aug. 2, House of Commons, by a vote of 245 to 129, to-day approved the Government's motion to adjourn Parliament on Friday until October 3.

By a vote of 250 to 132, the House also passed a vote of confidence in the Government, defeating the Labour Party's amendment seeking to prevent adjournment on Friday in accordance with the Prime Minister's motion. SHORTER ADJOURNMENT

LONDON, Aug. 2 (Reuter).-In the House of Commons to-day, Mr. Chamberlain submitted a motion that the House adjourn from Friday to October 3, with the provision that the Speaker should recall the House at an earlier date if he is satisfied that public interest demanded it.

should continue to sit for another three weeks, by when they shoulu have reached an agreement with Russia. There were some warning words in the offelal communique from Moscow, said the Premier, and in view of this fact it was clear that, i in their opinion, it would not be wise to be too optimistle about reaching a very speedy conclusion.

All the arguments presented by Mr.

Churchill were based upon the serious argument must inevitably lead to the
