British Strength Raised To 145,000 Men
LONDON, July 24. THE Government published n White Paper to-day asking Parliament to approve an in- crease in the effectives of the Navy.
The original figure was placed at 133,000 ofcers, seamen, boys, and Royal Marines. The requested in- ercase would raise the figure to 145,000 for the year ending March 31, 1940,
A memorandum published by the Admiralty specified that, following the Government's decision to call to
the colours the effectives from the reserve and auxillary-forces-us-well as a number of pensioned officers to take part in the combined naval and air force manoeuvres in August and September, the total figure of officers, seamen, boys, and Royal Marines would be temporarily 145,000.
