EXCITING MATCHES IN LAWN BOWLS TOURNAMENT
AN EXTRA HEAD REQUIRED IN
TWO GAMES TO DECIDE ISSUE
A.W. Grimmitt's Lucky Shot Turns The Tide
(By "Abe")
Two very exciting matches were seen yester- day in the quarter-final round of the Open Rinks Bowls Championship of the Colony, and in each
game an extra hoad was required to decide the skips who raet in the Bowls League on Saturday, appear to be very
ssue.
Strangely enough, both matches were played at 1inppy Valley. On the Civil Service CC. greeti,, Iwo Police rinks clashed, F. A. Channing, R. Ellis, W. Mair and J. C. 33. Fender (skip) henting J. M. Forrest, J. Heudridge, G. Perkins and J. Orem (skip) by 10-18 on the 22nd head, while on the Hongkong F.C. green P. W. Simmonds, J. Deakin, S. Eccleshall and A. W. Grimmitt (skip) defented J. W. Leonard, K. M. Omar, A. E. Coutes and B. W. Brudbury (skip) by 20-10, also on the 22nd head.
The match between Bradbury and Griinnitt was a very One one indeed and, considering the trickiness of the green, the standard of play was extremely high. There was never
very much, in it us can be judged by the scores, which showed 5-5 on the th head, 8-8 on the 0th, 12-12 on the 13th. But on the 15th, 16th and 17th heads, Bradbury scored a two, one and, three to feed 10-13.
The turning point in the match was seen on the 18th when a lucky wood by Griminitt not only pre- vented Bradbury from taking four Shot all beautifully drawn woods- but gave his side à angle, and the xcore, instead of being 22-13 in favour of Bradbury, become only 18-14, and the light was still on.
LUCKY SHOT
It was a definite bit of luck for Grimmitt, with Bradbury lying four, he was horrow with his inst wood but he had just the weight to cut in, a side wood which became in shot.
Grimmitt followed it up with an- other single and then a four to take
