appeal to Hongkong and the treaty ports of China &c. I have ventured to address myself to you, believing

that you will readily take such further steps as may be possible and practicable to bring the now known condition of the famine-stricken before the residents of Hongkong.

Drafts may be made payable either to Ewen Cameron Esq., HongKong & Shanghae Bank, or to myself; but as time is an element of such unspeakable value, I would suggest that if your Colony can render aid you would adopt the course taken before and remit by telegraphic transfer.
