JAPANESE SOLDIERS
KUNMING, June 23. MASS SUICIDE because of war weariness is common among the Japanese rank and file, said Father V. Lebbe, naturalised Chinese citizen of Belgian birth, who is head of the North China Field Ser- vice Corps, in a speech on the war situation in the Chung- tiao Mountain Range in south Shansi at the Yunnan University on Wednesday.
Father Lebbe said that Chinese search parties going about the woods often found at one place several bodies of dead Japanese officers and soldiers hanging on the trees. They had apparently committed suicide together.
