about a boat which was always smuggling and they had tried to catch him, but had always failed. At about 4 P.M. they went away. My garden has two sheds - one for myself and family and the other for workmen. The next morning the party in my house told me that they had come back at 10 a.m. I had no knowledge of their coming. Wong's sons told me that they had caught the smuggler and seized 15 balls of Opium. One of the five men wished to conceal one of the balls of opium and offered it to me. I said I would not receive it as it did not belong to him - and then he put the ball of Opium into the fireplace. At about 8 or 9 a.m. the Police came and apprehended Wong's sons and the other men were in the shed when the Police came. I do not know how they got away. I know nothing about the Opium buried in the garden.
I have pity for Leung Afook as he had nothing to do with the matter. He came that morning to ask me to pay him $2. He lent me $2 in the 8th Moon of the year after his return home when the steamer he belonged to was lost. My wife's brother named Atak borrowed the $2 from Leung Afook, and I undertook to pay the money. Atak is employed on a Customs Junk at Macao.
