Che SNAPSHOT GUILD
A LOCAL CAMERA CLUB
HONGKONG TELEGRAPH WEEK-END SECTION
Exchange of ideas on picture-taking leads to better pictures and more anapshot fun. Every town should have a camera club, EVERY town where there are sororal thousand havo organized in several camera fans, there should the United States. Some clubs harg be a local camera club. Such clubs hundreds of members; others, only aro of value to anyone who takes four or fire. But no matter how pictures and wants to improve his picture-taking.
The camera club brings snap shootors together. It enables them to exchange ideas, and swap experi- ences. They can work together on problems, hear useful discussions, and organize special events such as picture parties, hikes or excuralons. Contact with other camera tans helps each member, for there is al- ways something now to bo learned. In the club, one momber may know a great deal about taking snap obots at night. He can advise others on lighting. fim and exposure for night snapshots, Another member may own a miniature camera, and specialize in "off-guard" sunps or human-Interest pictures of children at play. Still another may know something about sports pictures, or flower pictures. Thus, each member contributo some knowledge which will help all the others make botter snapshots.

So popular and practical are cam ora clubs that, in the past few years, }.
all, the club is of value. In many instances, the camera club is part of a larger group, such as a Doy Scout troop or women's club, Often, tho club is able to have regular meotlog rooms, and mombera "chip In" to t out a darkroom with baitor equip. ment than each could afford by him- self,
Organization of the club is quito simple. Camera fans simply got to- Eother, arrange for regular meet- Ings, and plan a series of programs. Literature and suggestions for pro gram material aro obtained from va- lous sources-often from manufac turers of cameras and film, who havo special departments to supply auch material without charge for club use. Picture exhibitions or "criti clam nights" are usually planned, and whenever possible, tours, bikes, or other special picture jaunts are arranged. Under the elimulus of those activities, it le small wonder that pictures improvo, and the snap- shooter gets more fun and bonent from his camera hobby!

BOOK REVIEWS:
MY 51 YEARS AT EUSTON By R. Carrington Willis Пus book derives in a way from
some of Professor Malschoss* heroes. It centres around that amelly old horror of a railway station up in the north of Blooms- bury, from the offices of which the London and North Western Railway was controlled.
Carrington Willis
there safely, industriously, for the 51 years of his title. He came a very funkar clerkling. He retired Registrar In charge of all the L M 8 A12,000,000 of capital, a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night in the Britali railway world,
worked
-His Integrity was terrific. He never carned much muncy, yet 10 handled millions, and ho possessed secrets he could have sold for fortunes to specu intora He was entrusted with every disagreeable job which his bosses didn't quite care to handle.
Ho flourished on hard words and dirty looks. Like Danielle Darrieux, he could certainly," took it."
But that is not anything like all In his off time Carrington Wills taught clocution and dmmalle art at two polytechnics. In 1889 he founded the Shakespeare schools. During the '00's he was in constant demand to give nis remarkable Shakespeare recital in halls of all sizes.
He devoted himself to most earnest religious work as a lay render licensed by Bishop Temple. He ran a farm at his home. Ho plunged into local politics. He twice fought the good Aght as a Labour candidate
Personally having read his book with attention, I do not think I should find Carrington Willia congenial He acers a bote. But he is a phenome- non. What is more important, he is a most excellent and English phenome-
non.
There are thousands on thousands of younger or older Carrington Willises doing their sluff all over the country, They devote themselves to their fellow- men without reward except fun and satisfaction. They are the strength and glory of all voluntary movements, In such days, as these let us rejoice In Carrington Wills and all such stal warts. We need them every one. That is what made this book so interesting to me..
