Lotony declared. I am Assistant at the light house at Cape d'Aguilar. On the 29th ultimo at about 5.4. I was engaged in lighting the lamps of the light house. I saw a boat with the beach coming from the direction of Aberdeen towards C. d'Aguilar. I also saw a mandarin's boat coming from the Eastward of Cape d'Aguilar towards the other boat. I say a mandarin boat because they had a yellow flag in the stern with a dragon in it. In the bow there was a white triangular flag with a red border and above them there was a red pendant. This flag had some Chinese Characters on it. The Mandarin's boat was close to Cape d'Aguilar Beach when I saw her. There were more than 70 hands in her. The Crew had red coats on - One man was in a white jacket. The mandarin was rowing busily and Sailing and was trying to Catch the other boat. The other boat got into the Bay and the men in her beached the boat and then pumped out water and ran up towards the light house.
Before the opium boat was beached, I saw the mandarin boat fire 4 shots at the opium boat. The opium boat fired 6 shots back. About 10 minutes after the Opium boat was beached the mandarin boat was run on to the beach near the Opium boat. I saw the man in the white jacket ...
