Cruizon, I have the honour to forward for Your Lordship's information copy of a report made by the Harbour Master,
together with the evidence taken by him regarding the seizure of a Junke flying Mandarin flag, and appropriation of all its Cargo, by the crew of a Junke all of whom were dressed in the uniforms of Chinese soldiers.
This Government has made repeated and energetic representations on the subject, and has insisted upon the restitution of the Junke and Cargo, the punishment of the principals concerned in the outrage, and an apology from the Vice Roy of the two Provinces.
Up to the present, however, these demands have not been complied with in their entirety, though there is no attempt made to dispute the truth of the facts.
The subject is suspended at present owing to the serious illness under which Sir John Brooke Robertson is laid low. It is not improbable that I may have to communicate further with Your Lordship.
