The Table They Don't Have To Wait At
It Takes Orders, Stands On
And Even Counts
One Leg,
Neighbours Have All Tried It
PEOPLE FROM various parts of Scotland are visit- ing a miner's home in Bowhill, Fife, to see a small table which, it is claimed, can balance itself on one leg, waltz about the floor, and correctly answer certain questions.
"We haven't had a minute's peace since the antics of the table became known a week ago," said William Dryburgh, the
owner.
"We shall have to turn away all know how many elgarettes were in the visitors, or start a museum. the packet. want to make it known that my wife |

to carry out experiments with the table, but we would not allow him in the house."
ON ONE LEG
Mrs. Dryburgh drew out the table, which she uses for holding a radio sot, and set it in the middle of the living-room.
She placed her hands on it, her palms fightly touching the surface.
"Rise, table, rise on two legs, she repeated for eight minutes, The table creaked and rose slightly, "Faster, faster," said Mrs. Dry- burgh.
Two of the table's lens rose six inches from the floor.
"On one leg now," she said. Slowly the table rose and balanced itself on one leg.,
"Down now," said Mrs. Dry- burgh.
And the table slowly resumed its normal position.
The table tapped seven times on
the floor.
We opened the packet, and there were seven cigareties in it.
A stranger, who had been walching the demonstration, took a bunch of keys from his pocket.
He placed them on the table, his hand covering them. No one in the house except the stranger knew how many keys there were.
The table tapped, three times on the stranger's hand. the floor. Three keys were under

One of the neighbours succeeded alone in making the table balance on one leg.
"Move to the budgie's cage," he shouted four times.

The only two I won from-to the extent of £400-were warned off the Turf, and I got nothing. I was left with those who had not been warned off.".
£20,798 LIABILITIES
At her examination in bankruptcy, her Hobllities were said to be £28,700 and her assets £174. But she said: "I have never bet heavily, and there is no great loss to my creditors because of gambling transactions."
And last night, sliting by a log fire in her Highland home, Loch Nell Lodge, Taynuilt, Berwickshire, --she told me:
"It is ridiculous to say that my assets are only £174. I have an estate in Berwickshire worth at least £10,000, and there are also three trusts in which I am interested,
"I intend within the next two or three days to put a definite proposal before my creditors. My Bnancial position is very much better than would appear in the present circum- stances. I have never lived ex- travagantly."
TOOK ON DEBTS
And in court she said that she attributed her bankruptcy to several causes.
"One of these is that I belleved when my husband died I would be well off, and somewhat foolishly took his debis on my shoulders.
These included debla to a number of moneylenders, and I have tried my
+ best to pay them off. In addition, when my father, Baron Glenarthur, died in 1928. instead of receiving any from his estato, I actually lost. This was because shares in Messrs. Arthur and Co., Ginsgow, were overdrawn. I expected to be left about £3,000 £4,000 a year."
