Connaught RC,
London's hospitals are fitted with the most modern scientific equipment, and hundreds of thousands of pounds' worth of apparatus is available to anyone who needs it.
The nineteenth-century school was dirty, dark and vermin- infested, and in it the half-trained teacher, harassed and ill-paid, wrestled with a class of 100 or more children.
Scientific miracles are worked in London's health pools every day. These kiddies are being mas saged in the pool at Queen Mary's Hospital.
Squalor still jostles the new prosperity, but more than half a million people have been housed and rehoused by the County Council and Borough Councils of London.
Modern schools, where teaching methods move with the times and the most recent apparatus is provided, have replaced the grini, windowless classrooms against which Dickens campaigned.
ANKI
To redress the disorganised traffic system of the late nineteenth century, the L.C.C. took over the horse trams, built the power station at Greenwich, and electrified the tramways. Then it started 'clearing away slums to make way for new traffic arteries.
Modern traffic passes over Westminster Bridge, with the symbol of Britain's Government in the background, and in the fore ground the home of London's governing body.
"But the work of London: is not yet finished, and never will be," says Mr. Herbert Morrison.
