LEARNING HOW
ABY'S' no trouble at all," boasted a young mother proudly to me the other
day, 'Bho takes her feeds without any fuss, loves her bath. and we don't hear a sound from her all night."
"It's all very well to talk now," I said. "She's only three months old. but you wait until she's three montlu alder.
There's no reason why all babies shouldn't be perfect angeta for the first five months if their day-by-day routine is carried out and they are noë- mally healthy,
"It's when you come to wean them that you'll face your first big problem. If you don't start Baby off In the right way, nii your good work of the past will be quickly undone, and she may have a bad setback."
As I told my young friend, I believe in gradual wenning straight on to cup and spoon feeding, and mothers will have no lasting trouble with the pro- cess provided that they are pallent,
She'll Disapprove
Baby is not likely to Lake to the change williout a murmur. She will
probably show definite disapproval t (rst, but, after all you as mother are in charge, and persovemner on your part will win the day.
If Baby registers too much disappro val, wmp her firmly in a clean towel so that the small arms cannot be waved about nor the spoon knocked out of your hand, and go on patiently with the feeding, using a shallow- bowled spoon with rounded edgen,
Pay no heed alio apits back food at first; that bound to happen until Baby gets accustomed to now tastes and to the feel of the spoon, so carry on until she finally gives in gracefully,. This should only take a few dayn.

Baby is five months old now, and i should be glad if you would give me roine information on weaning, so that I can go straight on with this when the time comes.
AB Baby is making regular progress
and is thriving generally, you can start to introduce certain extras
in preparation for gradual weating at seven months.
(1) Before the 10 a.m. ford give one dessertspoonful of good bone and vege table broth, for which I shall be very pleased to let you have a recipe. Give patiently in a spoon, not a bottle. Fol. Jow this with the normal feed,
(2) Before the 2 p.m, feed give two tablespoonfuls of bolted milk with two of water and level teaspoonful of sugar; curtail the breast-feed which follows by Ave minutes.
(3) Before the 6 p.m. feed give half
a teaspoonful of fresh raw egg-yolk.

(4) At 9 am and 5 pm, daily give two teaspoonfuls of strained fruit juice in two of water, slightly sweetened it necessary, and precede this with half a teaspoonful of some good cod-ilver all emulsion or two drops of halibut Ilver oil.
Poor Start
Mine was a premature baby, weigh- Ing dib, at birth. Note, at seven monthis, she weighs 1610. Should I delay wean- ing as she had such a poor start in ll/c.
Do not advise this, especially as
she is getting restless long before her next feed is dun. This is probably a sign that she needs more food now, and that abe is quite ready for gradual wraning.
Make the change-over, gradually thus avoiding upsets for both your- self and Baby.
It should take about five weeks
to make this rst change on to artificial feeds entirely, then she will } be ready for the second weaning
Increasing.. the amount, grudhunily... to.............which takes her on to semi-solids.
