CHINA
OFFENSIVES SLOWING DOWN
(Continued from Page 1.)
Japanese are now driving northwards ngainst the retreating Chinese forces. The 15th Chinese Division is reported to be entrenched on strategie heights near Chongkoling, about ten miles north of Tsengshing.
The Chinese withdrawal from Tsengshing is admitted in Chinese despatches. Prior to the withdrawal, the Chinese dynamited the Japanese barracks and amunition dumps which they previously had coptured.
Honan Drive Ends
"Trans-Ocean" reports that the Japanese have capture Tanhsien, in north-eastern Hainan. The capture was effected by the Kawasaki Divi- sion, which operated in conjunction with શ naval detachment from H.1.J.M.S. Ithinki.
The same agency reports that the Chinese offensive in Honan has been brought to an end with the Japanese re-capture of Chungmu, a Hoangho River city south of Kaifeng.
A Chinese spokesman in Chungking claims that the Japanese garrison In Kalfeng was almost completely wiped out when the Chinese broke into the city on two occasions last week.

Chinese ircraft have been ex- tremely active in Shansi and have subjected Japanese positions at Tal- yuan, Talku, Yutze and Kinnghsien to several aerial attacks.
Kiangai Succossos
Although reports indicate that the Chinese üffensives are stowing down In Kwantung, Shansi, Honan and Hupeh, Chinese forces appear to be meeting with further successes in Klungsl
The Chinese huve now advanced on Wuning, 70 miles north-west of Nan-. chang and have already commenced an attack on the city. Wanshoushan. south of Nanchang, has fallen before the Chinese drive.
The only other reports of note come from Foochow, where, it is stated, tension prevalls following the ap pearance of Japanese warships and transports off the mouth of the Min River. Japanese planes are recon- noitering over coastal towns.
