Lieut.-Colonel the Rt. Hon. Sir Matthew Nathan, P.C., G.C.M.G., K.C.M.G., C.M.G. LL.D., one of Hongkong's foremost Governors, and also one-time Governor of Queensland..
Sir Matthew Nathan, who was 77 years of age, completed a brilliant career in the service of the British Government in 1926. For four years, from 1903 to 1907, he made himself an out- standing administrator of Hong- kong, and the beneficial effect of his successful governorship is felt in the Colony even to-day.
Son of the late Mr. Joseph Nathan, Sir Matthew entered the army in 1000, when he joined the Royal En- gincers. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1889, was made Brevet Licut.- Major in 1080, and Colonel in 1907.

He was Colonel of the Light Infantry in 1914.
