In celebrating her 100th birthday, Mrs. Mary J. Cummings of Bow Brilliant sunshine, bringing with it much warmer visitors that she had voted for every Lake, held open house and told her weather than that experienced in the Colony during the Republican President since past week, favoured the first day's racing at the Second went unscathed through the great Extra Meeting of the Hongkong Jockey Club.
A good crowd attended the two races held before luncheon to-day und the attendance became even binger after the adjournment.
Those who were there in time for the rst event were rewarded with a thrilling race, Double Chance, Valorouts and Sylvandale flashing past the winning post in that order with only neck separating one from
the other.. Double Chance pald $47.30 for n win to place is backers in good humour for the rest of the
day.
The surprise of the early afternoon was the defeat of Lucky Lad by Lancashire Chips, who won by three lengths.
