RUMJAHN COUSINS ENTER SEMI-FINAL OF DOUBLES

COLONY TENNIS

CHAMPIONSHIP RESUMES WITH FOUR GOOD TIES

(By "Abe")

Held up for several days by rain last week, the Colony Tennis Championships resumed on the Hongkong C.C. courts yesterday with a programme. of singles and doubles matches. The stand court was utilised for the first time in the current tournament, the match chosen for the opening boing the quarter-final doubles tie between the Rumjahn cousins and two club-mates, Razack and A. R. Minu.

All four players being from the Indian R.C.; the match naturally lost a bit of its interest. Nevertheless some good play was seen, with euch pair shining in turn. While HUS- tained rallies were few and far be- tween, there were some snappy volleying duels, which were the chief feature of the inteh. Hard hitting niso made the mnich entertaining to watch.

The cousins, as expected, won but not before their opponents had given a fairly good account of themselves, Had they not made os many mis- tokes as they did, Razack and Minu would have put up nuch better Hght; but a great weakness of theirs was to win a splendid rolly only to lose the next point by a lamentable mistake.

Though they scored winners on many occasions with crisp volleys, the Rumjahns were not as reliable off the ground os usual; yet their fame was sound enough to couble them to win by 0-4, 7-5.

In each set, the winners led by 5-2.

Coach May Travel With British Track Team To America

· London. When a squad of ten British track athletes visits New York in mid-July, it may differ from all previous such parties by having with it a paid coach. For prominent of- ficials of the English Amateur Athletic Association are urging in the council-chamber that Britain should depart from her customary method of team preparation and should fall into line with other countries by engaging the services of an expert trainer, charged with the duties of putting final touches to the selected athletes' training and advising them as they go into competition. Official deci- sion on the subject is not expected for several weeks.
