Entertainment Tax Evasion: First

Case

of Its Kind

SUMMONED FOR FAILING to pay entertainment tax on public admission tickets without the permission of the Colonial Treasury, the headmaster of the Chun Wals School, Au Han-shok, was fined $15 when he pleaded guilty before Mr. T. J. Houston at the Central Magistracy this morning.

The tax on these tickets amounted to $12.35. The expenses totalled $81.15..

Sergt. Grainger sald the tax would have been refunded if the expenses amounted to less than 50 per cent of the taking, while in this particular case, after deducting $12.35 for tax, there would have been only $1.85 for charity.
