The amount voted is $40 a month; but as I have to pay $828 for a horse and groom, $24x for four chair bearers and about $10 for Additional Chair bearers, boat-hire, contingent and other Expenses on official inspections in the out-stations during my total disbursement of $50, I am actually a loser to the extent of $20, so that, were the Allowance assessed to Income Tax discontinued, and the Government were simply to refund me the Sums I pay out on account of the Public Service I should be a gainer.
I have thought it right to refer to this matter in rectification of any misconception that might exist as to my deriving any personal pecuniary advantage from the allowance referred to.
