Hongkong, 4th January, 1877.

Dear Sir,

We beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of yesterday's date and are obliged to you for pointing out to us the provisions of the Merchant Shipping Act relative to changes in a Vessel's Register Tonnage.

Our claim to have the "Ichang" remeasured is based on the clause which you quote, viz.

"it has been discovered that the tonnage of the Steamer has been wrongly computed.

We have handed your letter to our Agents.
